BEASTLY SUNDAY: REDS IN HEAVEN, PSG IN TROUBLE

Here we are, at the start of a new week. Boy, what a football weekend it has been!
And as I do every Monday, I'll be talking about the three most interesting Sunday matches.
Get ready to rock around Europe, we'll be taking a look at:

LIVERPOOL-MANCHESTER CITY
HELLAS VERONA-FIORENTINA
OLYMPIQUE LIONNES-PARIS SAINT GERMAIN

OK, if you're ready let's go!

LIVERPOOL-MANCHESTER CITY: 3-2

An Incredibly important win for Brendan Rogers' boys, who are still leading at the top of the Premier League with 2 points ahead of Chelsea and 7 ahead of ManCity. The Citizens still have two matches to retrieve, but even winning them both still means that they will be trailing Liverpool. Now, everything is really in their own hands: if they win the remaining 4 games of the season, they will be the champions.

If the Reds have gained such an incredible momentum, most of it can be attributed to the "Anfield effect". Liverpool has won 15 of the last 17 games at home, scoring 51 times (an average of 3 goals per match!).

This has been the 10th consecutive win for Liverpool. Moreover, 2014 it would seem is shaping up to be a magic year, as the team has yet to be defeated in a Premier League match.

Coutinho scored his goal n.5, the second this season against Manchester City. But if at the Etihad the Brazilian's goal didn't garner points, this time it was a match-winning one.
Martin Skrtel scored as well, and is the centre-back with the most goals netted in the entire Premier League: 7.

What can we say about Manuel Pellegrini's team? Manchester City was able to make a comeback from the first half 2-0, but then Philippe Coutinho's euro goal crushed their hopes of blocking Liverpool's rush.

Now, Pellegrini will have to root for Mourinho: among Liverpool's next four opponents (Norwhich, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Newcastle) the Blues seem to be the only team that could stop Rogers' squad.

HELLAS-FIORENTINA: 3-5

Seeing how these two teams have faced off this year, one would wish that they could challenge each other every Sunday.
Surely one of the most entertaining matches of the weekend, Fiorentina and Verona showed why Serie A can still put on quite a show.
With 8 goals scored, this has been the season's most prolific match. Guess which one held that position before? Well, it was yet another encounter between those two again: last December Fiorentina had beaten Verona 4-3!
All goals considered, that brings the tally to 15: no two teams have been able to score that often in a double encounter up to now.

This is also the first time that the Viola has scored 5 goals all in one go, and the second time that Verona has received a "manta" ( the last time it happened was against Sampdoria in their 5-0 loss at the Marassi stadium).
One of the most entertaining matches of the weekend.

Fiorentina celebrates the club's 1000th success, maintaining a 5 point advantage over Inter.
Verona failed in their attempt to win their third match in a row, something which they have achieved only once this season. The gialloblù, however, can be justifiably satisfied with their team's performance in their first year since promotion.

OLYMPIQUE LIONNAIS-PARIS SAINT GERMAIN: 1-0

Parbleau! What has happened to PSG? After getting knocked out of the Champions League, the French powerhouse loses their second consecutive match. Moreover, for the second time in a row, the net eluded them (the last time it happened was in August 2012!). Having scored 74 goals in 33 matches, that makes for an average of more than 2 goals per match.
Oh, wait, come to think of it: Ibrahimovic wasn't playing?  Well, that explains everything….

Jokes aside, Ibra has scored 25 of PSG's 74 goals: that's practically 30%, quite a lot.
For this year's Ligue One there is no real danger on the horizon as Monaco is still 10 points behind with 5 games left to play. But if they want to move to the next level, they'll probably need to rethink their offensive strategy.

Lyonnais finally beats PSG after not having scored even once in their last 3 encounters. Sweet revenge indeed, in the aftermath of their trouncing defeat 4-0 at the Park Des Princes.

Now Saint Etienne, 4th in the ranking, is a mere 2 points away.
