LOGORAMA: 5 CURIOUS FACTS ABOUT CARDIFF CITY'S EMBLEM

http://it.soccerway.com/teams/wales/cardiff-city-fc/

My dear readers, I hope you all had a lovely Easter,(mine certainly was) and are ready to recommence our exploration of the weekly issues.
Today we kick off with an analysis of a team that has recently gone from being "tweeting" to "roaring": CARDIFF CITY.

FIRE AND PASSION: A HISTORY REWRITTEN

Cardiff City's logo was recently revolutionized just two years ago, when newly appointed president Tan Vincent decided to give his team an emblem that would work better in the Asian market.

For this special issue of "Logorama", we'll be having a look at the main differences between the two logos.
What secrets are enshrouded in Cardiff City's emblems?

1)THE DATE
The Welsh club, originally called Riverside AFC, was founded in 1899, as it appears on the new logo in Latin "est 1899".

2)THE COLOURS
Cardiff City has seen its colours change quite a few times. Originally the team played wearing amber and chocolate shirts. Sometime around 1910 these were substituted by white and royal blue. This, however, wasn't the end of the merry-go-round for the "Cardiffians". With the Malaysian businessman Tan Vincent taking control of the club, ambitious expansion plans were drawn up for Cardiff City. In order to make the team attractive outside the city of Cardiff (and especially to the football-following public in Asia), the historical white and blue was substituted by a bright red. This was because in Asian culture blue is usually a color associated  with death and funerals (you can understand then why clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool have such a huge fan base in those countries, especially when compared to those of their English counterparts Chelsea and Manchester City). Red seemed the perfect colour, as it symbolizes luck and integrity in Asia.

3)THE BIRD
In the former emblem, centre stage was occupied by a blue bird, which is why the team was famously nicknamed "the Blue Birds".  The origins of this iconic figure can be  traced back in history. Legend has it that it had originally been chosen by an unknown supporter as a way of paying homage to the childrens' play written by  Maurice Maeterlinck's "The Blue Birds", which was being avidly read by just about everyone after the Belgian author had won the Nobel prize for Literature.

4)THE DRAGON AND THE MOTTO
In the new emblem, the Dragon"DOMINATES" replacing the blue birds now positioned underneath its claws.
This is a symbol of the history of the Welsh people and has a very powerful meaning in many Far East cultures. The use of this animal as the new face of the club aimed to ideally pull together Welsh and Asian fans. To imbue the logo with increased intensity a completely new motto was coined: "FIRE AND PASSION".

5)THE FLOWER
The only element that was lost in the transition from old to new was the yellow flower which was found on the upper left hand side. It represents a daffodil, which is also one of the national symbols of Wales.
